Gladman, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully after an eight year courageous battle with lung cancer with her family at her side at the KC Hospice House in the early morning on Friday, May 22, 2009. Phyllis was a loving daughter to her parents, Edith and Deacon Cohen, who preceded her in death and with whom she is now reunited.
Phyllis was a life time resident of Kansas City, Leawood and Overland Park. She is survived by her children, Sharon Choikhit, Beverly Plost and Howard Plost. She was a devoted mother who always did her very best to provide, care and love for her children. They will always remember Phyllis as their beautiful, smart, funny, caring, loyal and fiercely protective mother. They will love and miss having her in their lives each day talking and spending time with her.
Phyllis was a loving grandmother to her two granddaughters who she adored and treasured, Gabrielle Choikhit and Alycia Choikhit, both of whom will deeply miss respectively their Grams and Grammy. She always provided a safe and loving place for them in her heart and arms. She was a successful business owner of the prestigious Phyllis Gladman Associates Real Estate Company; as a broker she achieved numerous times the "Four Million Dollar Club" award. Her clients were friends and she did not sell houses, but rather helped them find homes to build their lives. She always did the right thing for her family, friends and clients.
Phyllis was raised in Kansas City, graduated from Paseo High School and attended Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma, where she was a member of the Sigma Delta Tau sorority, Phyllis enjoyed playing golf, watching movies, cooking with her grandchildren and adored her animals, especially her dog, Gus. Phyllis leaves her many family and friends with wonderful memories, funny stories and a lifetime of love. Rest in peace; you will be missed Phyllis. After retiring from the Navy, Marvin graduated from Illinois State University with degrees in mathematics and psychology. Marvin was employed by the Waukegan, IL, Public School District for 18 years as a school psychologist.
Marvin served as a deacon, treasurer and Sunday School teacher at numerous churches including Lewis Ave. Baptist Church in Waukegan, IL, and Missoula Southern Baptist Church in Missoula, MT. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Marvin always placed God, country, and family before anything else. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Hayes and Charlotte Blackford Hayes and six brothers and sisters. Haynes, 81, of Olathe, KS, died of cancer on May 22, 2009 at home. He was born in Henry County, IN, on May 20, 1982, to Harold and Helen (Apple) Haynes, who named him Billy Eugene Haynes. He grew up with three younger brothers, Paul, Bob, and Jerry. Bill and his brother Paul were cheerleaders for the Spiceland, IN, high school Stinger Basketball Team. Bill graduated early from Spiceland High School.
In 1945, he enlisted in the Navy V5 program, which was canceled several months later, and he was discharged. He graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, in 1952, with his B.S. degree. He was employed by General Motors in 1952, He was transferred to Olathe, KS, when Delco Battery was built in 1956. He attended night law school at UMKC for 4.5 years, graduating with his J.D.
Degree in 1965. Bill left Delco Battery after 10 years in June 1965, and was in private law practice until 1968, He was an Assistant Johnson County Attorney for approximately 2 years; in 1971, he became a Kansas District Judge in Johnson County, retiring in August 1993. Bill was a Mason in Indiana for 60 years, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, Johnson County Bar Association, American Legion, Henry County Indiana Historjcal Society, Spiceland Preservation and Tourism Society, a former member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and a past member of the Abdallah Shrine. Bill married his wife of 62 years, Betty Lou Reece, on December 1, 1946 at her parent's home in Spiceland, IN. Jim Hess, 36, formerly of Leawood, KS, passed away May 14, 2009 at his home in Raleigh, NC, after an eight year journey fighting a brain tumor. Cullen Funeral Home, 816-322-5278) MARILYN K. HUTCHISON, M.D. Marilyn K. Hutchison, M.D., 90, of Lee's Summit, passed away quietly at home on May 17, 2009. Dr.
Hutchison was born in Philadelphia, Pa. in December 1918 but spent most of her school life in Kansas City, Mo. She was admitted to Park College at the age of fifteen and attended for two years before entering the School of nursing at St. Luke's Hospital. After the start of World War 11, she worked as a registered nurse for a short time before enlisting in the Army Nurse Corps as a commissioned officer.
As an army nurse, Lt. Hutchison had assignments varying from helping to set up a hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas, working with the ski troops in the mountains of Colorado and serving at Schofield Barracks in Okinawa, On that island Marilyn worked long hours caring for wounded soldiers in difficult circ*mstances for many months under enemy fire until the bombing of Hiroshima ended the war in the Pacific. She and her brother Bob had planned to study medicine together, but he was killed when his plane was shot down while she was recovering from post-war traumatic- illness following her discharge from the service. Her parents finally encouraged her to continue her education alone. Marilyn received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas.
After. her internship at Menorah Hospital, she spent several years as a resident in internal medicine, anesthesiology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. While working and teaching a the KU Medical Center, Dr. Hutchison was recruited to the U.S. Public Health Service, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, and resumed her assignment in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Hutchison was active in promoting continuing medical education and helped to develop a national program to increase physician manpower. She was Clinical Assistant Professor, International Medi- ON DIRECTIONS TO FUNERAL KANSAS CITY.COM and click on cine and Community Health at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and served on the Secretary of Labor's Advisory Committee on Marine Terminal Facilities. She represented the United States in medical conferences of the World Health Organization held in Geneva, Switzerland.
At the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, she research into pulmonary diseases. Later, on loan from the Public Health Service to the Department of the Interior, she served as medical director of the Bureau of Mines, where she worked to promote better health and safety of coal miners and reduce the incidence of black lung disease. Dr. Hutchison was Assistant Division Director of the National Institute of Occupation al Safety and Health and chaired several national committees dealing with worker health. She was the author of a number of medical and scientific articles and was listed in the 12th edition of American Men and Women of Science.
Marilyn always loved to write and after her retirement, she was president of a longstanding writers' organization, The Kansas City Quill Club. She wrote many books of poetry and short stories, which she presented as gifts to her many friends. She chaired the Plaza chapter of AARP for several years and was a member of the Women's City Club. Marilyn was a lifelong member of the Unity church and was active in the Course in Miracles group at Unity Temple and various church activities. Dr.
Hutchison survived several episodes of cancer and surgery over several decades and battled valiantly throughout the final period of pulmonary cancer. Throughout her professional and private life, Marilyn was happiest when in the company of friends and will be long remembered for her generosity, ready smile and sense of humor. She was a silversmith and a member of the Kansas City Silver Guild. She and a friend jointly operated a booth and sold jewelry at the Mission Road Antiques Mall. She designed and made quilts for teen-age children with cancer and enjoyed other crafts, including woodcarving, weaving, painting, ceramics and decoupage.
A poem she wrote called "Epitaph" is a fitting memory of her life. When have gone from this familiar plane into the next, grant that I leave in memory a pleasant face. Let remembrance be of one who looked on beauty reverently, and loved all brothers, linked in spirit through the web of God. Let no one know that as I smiled and listened, inner battles waged to keep the pain from view. Let there be not a hint of hours of dark despair when only assurance of Heaven eased the lonely way.
Let none remember sadness or a frown, recalling only laughter, jokes we shared and times I tried to help a friend in need. Ah! The joy of friends whose love meant more than they will ever know. Let them remember songs and laughter and times we talked about the wonders miracles and inner peace. And let those, Lord, who do recall my face, remember me smiling. Dr.

He was born November 22, 1931 in Grayson, Missouri, to Frank and Bonnie Jones. He lived most of his life in the Plattsburg Area. He was married to Charlotte Rae Crone for fiftysix years, who survives of the home.
Mr. Jones retired from TWA. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a grandson, Korey Mick. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Luna, and her husband, Ruben, Arlington, TN, Vicki Jones, Plattsburg, Missouri, Rita Mick, and her husband, Wayne, Kearney, Missouri; grandchildren, Erica Luna Dunba, Brian Luna, Derek Carder, Darren Carder, Kirby and Barry Mick; ten great grandchildren; his brother, Joe Jones, and his wife, Irene, auburn, Nebraska; and his sister, Margaret Johnston, Dearborn, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Bailey Cox Family Funeral Service, Plattsburg, Interment Stoney Point Cemetery, Trimble, Missouri. HOMES INFORMATION ON FLOWERS obituaries DELMAR OLAF KAUFFMAN Delmar Olaf Kauffman, 93, passed away Wednesday, May 20 at Carmel Hills Living Center, Independence, where he lived for three years. Del was born August 12, 1915 in Blue Island, Illinois, to Kendall and Agnes (nee Ericson) Kauffman.
He graduated high school in 1933 and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1940-46 and saw combat in the South Pacific on Guadalcanal and Bouganville. He married Grace Mary Fletcher of Chicago, Illinois on May 2, 1942. They raised five children: Ruthanne Rathbun (deceased); Malcolm Kauffman of Wroxham, Norwich, England; Lynne Smith, James Kauffman and Mark Kauffman, all of Independence.
Del was a loyal friend, a loving father and a proud patriot. In latter years his failing eyesight curtailed his weekly bridge games, but he main-tained his interest in sports. He loved baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs and the Kansas City Royals. He is survived by 13 grandchildren: Laurie Kroenke, Oak Grove; Brent Austin, Mesa, Arizona; Brad Austin, Harrisonville; Jami Gomez, Independence; Jennifer Davis, Moline, Illinois; Jeremy Kauffman, London, England; James Kauffman, Tel Aviv, Israel; Christopher Smith, Independence, Paul Smith, Kansas Michael Kauffman, Sarah Wischropp and Jackie Redmond, Kansas City; Justin Kauffman, Washington State; and 23 great-grandchildren. Internment will be May 27th, 1p.m., at Mound Grove Cemetery where he will be reunited with the ashes of his dearest Grace to lie with him in perpetuity.
