Every Disney Movie Releasing in 2024 (2024)

Disney has proven itself to be one of the most successful movie studios to ever exist and has many upcoming projects that will be released in 2024. It is responsible for the release of multiple classic animations ranging from Snow White to Frozen and has enjoyed success in live-action movies, releasing the likes of The Jungle Book and Cinderella. They are continuing to buck the trend with their new releases and collaborations with studios in the coming year.

Disney did not have a good 2023 in terms of releases, with their latest animated movie, Wish, performing far below their expectations, and receiving negative reviews from critics. Live-action movies such as The Little Mermaid and The Marvels also proved lackluster financially, resulting in Disney breaking its impressive $1 billion box office streak for the first time since 2014. The studio currently has 7 confirmed projects that will be released throughout 2024, providing some hope that Disney will be able to turn things around over the next year.

The First Omen

Due for release April 5, 2024, labeled under 20th Century Studios

This is the sixth film in the Omen franchise and the first Omen film to be released in nearly 18 years. A young woman from America moves to Rome to begin a new life working at a church. But it isn't long before she discovers a secret darkness and an evil conspiracy within the church, to bring about the Antichrist.

This movie serves as a prequel to the original 1976 horror classic and delves into the origins of the Antichrist and Damien. The movie is set to star Nell Tiger Free, Bill Nighly, and Tawfeek Barhom in currently undisclosed roles with Ralph Ineson starring as Father Brennan. Co-produced with Phantom Four Studios and released under the 20th Century Studios label, The First Omen is set for a cinematic release on April 5, 2024.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Due for release May 24, 2024, labeled under 20th Century Studios

The sequel to 2017's War of the Planet of the Apes, the movie is set generations after the reign of Caesar. While ape colonies have evolved, humans have been reduced to a feral state. However, since Caesar's rule, a new leader has used his teachings to manipulate and enslave clans. A young ape warrior and a human girl find themselves bonded together as they fight for their freedom.

A fourth film in the Planet of the Apes reboot series has been in the works since 2016, with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes being set to "continue Caesar's legacy" and return to the roots of what made the original movies successful. Owen Teague is set to star in the first Planet of the Apes film distributed by Disney. With the first trailer receiving 75 million views in the first 24 hours, it seems that many are excited about what to expect from this next Planet of the Apes movie when it premieres on May 24, 2024.

Inside Out 2

Due for release June 14, 2024, co-produced with Pixar

The long-awaited sequel to the award-winning 2015 animated film, Inside Out 2, will be released by Pixar in June 2024. Set one year after the first film's events, the five emotions, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust, have to deal with their host, Riley, becoming a teenager as she celebrates her 13th birthday. They also have to deal with some new emotions that come with being a teenager, one of them being Anxiety (voiced by Maya Hawke).

Inside Out 2's voice cast sees Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black return as Joy, Sadness, and Anger respectively, while Liza Lapira and Tony Hale join the cast as Disgust and Fear. The first movie was regarded as one of the most relatable animations ever released, and it looks like the sequel could relate even further with audiences. After several years of suffering from lackluster releases, Inside Out 2 appears to be what Pixar needs to be successful once again.

Deadpool 3

Due for release July 26, 2024, labeled under Marvel Studios

The wise-cracking, sarcastic mercenary arrives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time in the third movie of the Deadpool series. Leaked photos from the movie's production see Deadpool reunite with Wolverine for the first time in years. While the details of their encounter have been unconfirmed, it's known that the duo is in for the adventure of their lives.

This new movie in the Deadpool franchise has Hugh Jackman set to return as Wolverine for the first time since Logan despite his previous statements that he was done with the character. But the leaked photos also show that Wolverine is returning to his roots in his iconic black-and-yellow costume that wasn't seen in previous movies. Audiences will find out exactly how Deadpool and Wolverine will tie in with Phase Six of the MCU in July 2024.

Alien: Romulus

Due for release August 16, 2024 labeled under 20th Century Studios

This is the ninth installment in the Alien franchise. While there is currently only a brief synopsis of what the film is about, it's set to be an interesting story about "a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe". The creative team behind the movie has confirmed that Alien: Romulus will be a stand-alone movie that is separate from the rest of the Alien franchise.

Directed by Fele Álvarez, Alien: Romulus was originally scheduled to be released on Hulu before 20th Century Studios decided to release it in cinemas on August 16, 2024. It's been confirmed that the movie will take place between Alien (1976) and Aliens (1986). While more is yet to be known about the story, this movie looks to be an intriguing revival of the Alien franchise.

The Amateur

Due for release November 8, 2024 labeled under 20th Century Studios

Based on the 1981 novel by Robert Littel, this movie looks at Charles Heller, a CIA cryptographer, whose wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. He is desperate to get justice for his wife and find those who killed her. When he realizes that the CIA will not act, he decides to train and go after the killers himself.

The Amateur is directed by James Hawes in only his second role as a movie director after the success of One Life, with Rami Malek starring as Heller with Rachel Brosnahan and Caitriona Balfe in currently undisclosed roles. Filming faced suspension due to the SAG-AFTRA strike but has since resumed in London. The Amateur is set to premiere in November 2024.

Mufasa: The Lion King

Due for release December 20, 2024, co-produced with Pastel Productions

This movie is the long-awaited prequel of the Disney classic, The Lion King. Simba is now the king of the Pride Lands and is determined for a lion cub of his own, to follow his path. While he looks towards the future, the backstory of his father Mufasa, his rivalry with Scar, and how he became the king of Pride Rock, are explored.

The 2019 live-action film The Lion King is currently Disney's biggest remake so far, having grossed $1.6 billion worldwide. The Mufasa prequel marks the first time that the studio has created an original movie based on a live-action release. Initially scoped for a July 5 release, Mufasa: The Lion King is now scheduled in time for the Christmas holidays, on December 20, 2024.

It is known that one project is in co-production with Disney Animation Studios, indicating that Disney plans to release at least one new animated movie in 2024. While no further information has been released as yet, they will all be released under Disney. After a disappointing 2023, with a poor box office result for the year, it will be seen whether any of the new upcoming movies will bring better results for Disney in 2024.
