What to see and do in Peoria train wise?
Bob
#36493 Greetings, I haven't been to Illinois in a couple years. I will probably return for a visit in a couple months. What is the train show schedule like for October and November? I plan to visit Mike's Scale Rails on Sterling. Are there any other hobby shops in central Illinois? I heard there was a guy in Spring Valley with lots of Rock Island stuff. Is he still around. Is Chillicothe good for train watching....any particular time of day better? I'll be staying out by Mt. Hawley Airport. Please help me out. For your info I model Rock Island and ATSF. I also have Wabash and CBQ passenger trains. I model N Scale. Thank you in advance, | ||||||||||||||||||||

#36500 I agree - Valley Roundhouse in Spring Valley is worth a visit but I do suggest that you call before going just to make sure he's open the day that you plan to go as Marion does have some other interests outside his shop. Predominantly he carries HO but he has enough N to make the trip worth while, at least for me. It depends what you are looking for. Mostly what he has is ready to run freight cars, some passenger cars and a few locomotives plus a little miscellaneous. His shop is unique! A lot of new old stock and the shop is packed! Steam is scheduled at our club's museum in Freeport, Illinois the first and third weekends in October, Stephenson County Antique Engine Club Home Page

#36501 If you happen to be going through McLean, IL, just south of Bloomington there's McLean Depot. Head West off I55 and his shop will be on the right (North) side of the road just past the 2nd or 3rd street. They're right across from the Dixie truck stop. It's kinda a small shop, but he does have a good selection of DCC decoders. If you hear an Amtrak, you'll only have a short time to see it. They go through town quite fast. ---In PeoriaRails@..., <leo_mccauley2001@...> wrote : Marion Brasher is in Spring Valley on the main drag just wesr of the Valley News & Booze, well worth your trouble to find him.
