Throughout its history, Disney has produced some of the most iconic, influential, and critically acclaimed animated movies in cinema history, carving its name into the eternal pedestal of pop culture. While some Disney animated films can be long, the longest animated film of all time is Studio MAPPA's In This Corner of the World, whose extended version has a 168-minute runtime.

Disney movies are significantly shorter in comparison — Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first Disney film, is around 83 minutes long. Given young viewers' limited attention spans and most Disney animated films catered to children, it doesn't make sense for animated movies to be longer than two hours anyway. However, many Disney animated films can be considered 'long,' and only one Disney production surpasses this implicit time limit.

Wish is Disney's latest animated feature and while there have been some unfair critiques, the movie still has some valid complaints against it.

Wish follows the young Asha (Ariana DeBose), who gets more than she bargained for when she makes a wish upon a star, which causes the star to literally come down from the sky. The mischievous star accompanies Asha as she works to expose the devious plans of King Magnifico, ruler of Rosas, who is also trying to get his hands on the star.

The voice cast includes Chris Pine, Alan Tudyk, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, and Harvey Guillen. While Wish received a mixed response from critics and moviegoers, it did win the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Film in 2024. It was also heavily marketed as Disney’s animated film to be released on its 100th anniversary in 2023, which put it at a slightly longer runtime than most animated films.

19 Treasure Planet Has Gained A Cult Following

Treasure Planet is a science-fiction adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic 1883 novel Treasure Island. It follows Jim Hawkins, a young adventurer who finds a treasure map belonging to a great space pirate. He sets out to find the treasure, said to be stashed on the fabled “Treasure Planet,” and finds that the cyborg John Silver is also in hot pursuit of the treasure.

The film was meant to start a new franchise for Disney, but these plans ultimately fell through due to poor box office numbers. It faced stiff competition from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Santa Clause 2 and Die Another Day. Fantasia revitalized Mickey Mouse's fading fame and cemented him as a classic and went on to earn approximately $80 million at the box office, over thirty times its production budget. Critics, both contemporary and current, have deemed it among the greatest animated films ever made. Even though the film is over two hours long, Fantasia is one of the best golden-age Disney films and a must-watch for any Disney fan.
