Toy Story 5 is officially coming our way in 2026, marking a surprise return of Woody and Buzz into our lives.

The fifth movie was confirmed in February 2023 alongside Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2, with Disney later announcing its 2026 release date in April 2024.

It might seem unlikely that there's another Toy Story movie coming after Toy Story 4 ended with Woody and Buzz going their separate ways. However, at the time of that movie's release, producer Jonas Rivera did say it could be a new beginning too.

"I think Toy Story is such a great world, such great characters and there's so many new characters that I’d be remiss if I didn't say there was room for someone to crack that open," he told Digital Spy.

So as we begin the long wait for the movie, here's everything you need to know about Toy Story 5.

Toy Story 5 release date: When is Toy Story 5 being released?

Toy Story 5 will be released in cinemas on June 19, 2026 assuming that there aren't any delays with production.

We don't know exactly how far along Pixar are in development on the movie, so can't say whether or not it's on track for that summer 2026 release.

If you need a Pixar fix sooner than 2026, you can either watch every Pixar movie released to date on Disney+, or you can go and see Inside Out 2 when it comes out in cinemas on June 14 this year.

Toy Story 5 cast: Who's coming back for Toy Story 5?

We don't officially know the voice cast for Toy Story 5, but Pixar boss Pete Docter confirmed that Woody and Buzz are back.

It'd be a surprise if they weren't voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, respectively, and Allen pretty much confirmed his comeback in February 2023.

Woody rode off into the sunset with Bo Peep, voiced by Annie Potts, at the end of Toy Story 4 (no, we're still not over it), so with Woody back, we'd expect to see Bo and her sheep too.

Elsewhere, there are likely returns from Joan Cusack as Jessie, Wallace Shawn as Rex, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog and Jeff Pidgeon as the Pizza Planet Aliens.

Then there's the toys Bonnie already had before Andy gave her Woody and co, including Giggle McDimples (Ally Maki), Dolly (Bonnie Hunt) and Trixie (Kristen Schaal).

Tony Hale, Keanu Reeves, Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael Key could also reprise their respective roles as Forky, Duke Caboom, Bunny and Ducky from the fourth movie.

Sadly, Don Rickles and Estelle Harris will not be able to reprise their roles as Mr and Mrs Potato Head in the fifth movie. Rickles passed away in 2017, and his voice was used in Toy Story 4 via archive recordings, while Harris died in 2022.

It's possible archive recordings will be used again, otherwise the roles are likely to be recast, or even written out of the film altogether.

Toy Story 5 plot: What will Toy Story 5 be about?

Right now, we don't know what Toy Story 5 will be about, but Docter has teased that it will be "surprising".

"It's got some really cool stuff that you haven't seen before," he said in February 2023, but he stopped short of sharing any actual story details.

As such, we can only speculate on what's next based on the ending of Toy Story 4.

The fourth movie saw Woody struggle to move on and adjust to his new life with Bonnie, but his unexpected reunion with Bo Peep – as well as his friendship with Forky – provided him with a new perspective on life.

Instead of returning with Buzz and the others to Bonnie at the end of the film, he decided to head out on the road with Bo Peep. As Buzz put it: "He's not lost, not any more."

We're not crying, you're crying.

One of the credit scenes revealed that Woody is now helping other toys find their very own 'Andy'. It's therefore possible that Toy Story 5 could see Bonnie all grown up and her toys discarded, so Woody and Bo assist them in finding a new owner.

But this, of course, happened at the end of Toy Story 3 when Andy gave the toys to Bonnie as he left for college, so it could feel too similar.

Toy Story 5 trailer: Any footage of Toy Story 5 yet?

Given that Toy Story 5 is still two years away from its release, it'll be a while until we see any footage, we're afraid.

But there's plenty of Toy Story content on Disney+ to keep you entertained until then, including all four films and numerous shorts.

Toy Story 5 will be released in cinemas on June 19, 2026. Toy Story 1, 2, 3 and 4 are available to watch on Disney+.
